Fic recommendation: Heritage
Jun. 17th, 2007 05:18 pmThere's been some discussion about rec lists at
time_and_chips lately, and it's got me to thinking about stories I really love. I don't know that I'll do anything so formal as a rec list post, but from time to time, I'll post with a fic recs tag.
I loved Heritage when it was a one-shot, and I've been honored to beta for
np_complete. Even with all the infinite possibilities of Who fandom and ficdom, there are still original ideas to be written and shared. This is one of these ideas.
The gist is this, and I hope this is specific enough to intrigue you but not specific enough to spoil you: what tale could be told from the perspective of the Doctor and Rose's son, who has lived all his life in his father's shadow?
np_complete (and don't blush, dear, I am serious) has done a beautiful job of characterization and making me for one fall for the two OCs and to understand their motivations and perspectives. In the latest chapter, the fifth, John Tyler gets into the story of his parents. I love the gentle, carefully unfolding story and the depth of John as a character.
So, go read it. And thank me later.
