I think the giant cliffhanger in the middle of the next series (or between the two small series, whatever you want to call it) is going to be when River kills whoever it is she's supposed to kill.  Probably the Doctor.  Maybe Rory.

There's a decent chance, but then it would almost have to be the Doctor (because Rory, lovely as he is, is unlikely to get all this Best Person I've Ever Known stuff from River, and HOW MANY TIMES CAN RORY DIE ALREADY). But having it be the Doctor, in a context where we know he's not really regenerating and certainly not dying for good, wouldn't be that suspenseful. Although fan reaction the week between TSE and JE might indicate otherwise.

Well, to take into context TSE and JE, we all knew Tennant was leaving ... just didn't think it was that soon.

There could be timey wimey shenanigans involved. I wouldn't put it past Moffat to show us Eleven's regeneration well before it actually happens.
