I tried to think about how she'd want to be, if she had some time to plan ... as I addressed in the first chapter here, she thought the Doctor was coming to take her away when she saw him on the beach in Norway. Here, she has no such illusions, and can prepare and be tough. I think if she'd had some warning, the scene on Bad Wolf Bay would have been quite different.
