Science prompts

I'd like to pick your collective brains on something I've been contemplating.  One of the things I personally have enjoyed about writing for the Doctor Who fandom is the ability to take some real science and twist it into a story.  I've been keeping track of science-related prompts for several months.  The prompts take a variety of forms -- a Wikipedia article I stumble across, a real-time news article, a photo from APOD, top ten lists from LiveScience, etc.

What has stumped me is what to actually do with them.  Where do I post them?  I could share in my own journal, but the audience seems somewhat limited and I'd love to get them out to a wider audience.  One of the Doctor/Rose shipper communities?  While I tend to write that pairing, I don't want to limit the creativity of the people I might share the prompts with.  I'd want to make sure that I have the all-clear from the mods of whatever comm I post them to, as not to overlap with any other prompts or step on anyone's toes.  I also don't want to annoy anyone by spamming several comms with the same group of prompts.

What it boils down to is that I'm not sure where to start, so I just haven't started at all.

I'd love your ideas on what to do here.  If you are a mod for a comm and would be interested in having me share the prompts there, let me know!

ETA:  There's also the (humbling) possibility that I will share them and ... nothing.  Is anyone interested in actually writing based on the prompts?

This is too funny. I've been doing the same thing! I actually have a stack of books from the library on all kinds of space, science-y, physics things that I'm trying to work into my "big" story. The problem is, there's just too much good stuff, and you want to use it all!

Hang on to them. I had a collection of little ideas that I thought to weave into bigger stories that fit nicely yet unexpectedly into ones I was working on.

I agree -- hang on to them! You never know when little things will pop up and prove useful.

I'm dying to get back into writing fanfiction so I'd be interested. I've not written in the Who universe so a prompt might be just the boost I need and with Summer Vacation looming on the horizon, I'll actually have the time and energy to do some writing.

That's good to know.

Gah, me too. I'd like to see a place where these are collected and shared. Maybe there should be a com? :) I have space.com image of the day on my feeds for inspiration. I see science-y stuff on the net that is crying for a fic (that I know I'll never use) all the time. Seems like a terrible waste.

I also wonder how popular prompts like that would be. Still it would interesting to try to find out.

That seems to be the consensus ... I was rather afraid someone would say that. :)

:D

Well, if you decide to give it a try, I'd be happy to lend you a hand.

Great idea. I particularly liked your terraforming story and it was fun to see the same theme crop up in TDD.

Try teaspooners - the LJ DW writing com. I don't think they'd ask anyone to vouch for you if you applied to join, but if they did just let me know.

If that doesn't work out, I think setting up a comm of your/our own might be interesting.

Yeah I agree setting up your own com for this might be a good idea

Don't have any ideas on where to share this, but I can tell you I would be interested. I've not written much in the DW fandom and all I have so far is Rose/Ten fluff. I'd love science prompts that might get me into something a bit meatier.
