Torchwood ... wow.

Burn Gorman is fantastic.

I've liked Torchwood a great deal this series -- although to be fair I liked the last series, too.  This one was stellar, and it was mostly Gorman's acting that did it for me.

That scene with oblivious Tosh in his kitchen (eating, Tosh! seriously!) ... the interaction with Parker (whom I loved) ... throwing out all the food and drink in his flat ... the quasi-drowning.  Whoa.  I liked his scenes with Maggie as well, whose story broke my heart, too.  You know the writing and acting are good when I find myself wanting to give Owen -- philandering asshole Owen -- a hug.

Jack was an absolute jerk in this episode and I found myself rooting for Owen to shoot him in the scene where he made him give up the gun and access pass.  (Oh, c'mon.  It wouldn't have stuck, and Jack kinda deserved it.)  After all the soul-searching and emo from Jack about being abandoned by the Doctor, I expected Jack to be at least marginally supportive of Owen's condition.  I don't fault Jack for being overwrought about his own situation -- and he had every right to be pissed at the Doctor -- but good grief, he was absolutely cruel to Owen.  This hit me as even worse than Jack's treatment of Beth back in Sleeper, which I know didn't sit well with a lot of people.  After all, it was Jack who was unable to let Owen go and got him into this mess in the first place.  Pot, this is kettle.

I do have to comment on something that tweaked my willing suspension of disbelief, and it annoyed me because it threw me out of the show for a moment.  If Owen doesn't have a heartbeat or circulation, he won't bruise.  Broken bones and open wounds are bad enough, so why even go there?  Also ... if he can talk, he can give rescue breaths, even if he doesn't need to breathe for respiration.  /end skience nitpicking.

Heh. I was wondering if I would be alone in thinking this way. I was really upset and felt it wasn't Jack at all.

OMG THANK YOU!!!! That TOTALLY threw me out of the story. I think it wouldn't have ruined the story at all for Owen to give the breaths and for the man to die anyway.

Anwya, I thought Maggie was absolutely brilliant and the actress had a hell of a lot more chemistry with Burn than Naoko Mori. I feel bad saying that because I like Tosh (and Naoko - she did a brilliant job with To the Last Man), but they just don't seem to connect.

I was hoping the whole "eternally dead" thing would be resolved by now, but it looks like it'll be around for a bit. Can I just say I hope it's undone by the end of the series. And please can we keep Burn in the process?

Exactly. Same with my point about the bruising. The broken bones and torn skin and internal organ damage is pretty damn horrifying without the mention of bruising.

I'm not sure what they'll do with dead!Owen but I love the plotline. If he does come back to life ... it'll be interesting to see if he learns some lessons or if he goes right back to sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll.

Oh, who am I kidding? It's Owen.

Yeah. I think the point they were trying to make was it wouldn't take much but good lord. You could make a drinking game based on the number of times banged, bruised, or broken was used in this episode.

Oh, who am I kidding? It's Owen.

Dude. Can you spell "binge"? It's "O-w-e-n"..

Why do we not have a Torchwood drinking game? Or, if there is one, why don't I know about it already?

This was a fabulous episode, and really made up for what I thought was a weak and boring episode last week. I can't believe how good Torchwood has been this season!

And okay, Jack was kind of an ass to Owen, but that line about "Skinny guy in tight jeans runs into water? I was taking pictures"? That was funny as hell.

I'm hoping that the Zombie Owen storyline gets wrapped up by the end of the season, though I am pleased the writers didn't take the easy way out by having the Pulse cure him, which would have been the way they'd have dealt with it last season. This time around I feel like there's a chance they've actually put some thought into resolving the problem ... assuming it will be resolved this season at all.

Me, too.

I thought it would, but then I realized that if he was up on the roof talking to Maggie, with the bullet hole in his chest, he couldn't have been fixed with Parker.

You're making me want to actually watch. Damn. (I still haven't seen last week or this week, because of a limited supply of giving a shit.)

It's worth it. How scary is that?

Exactly! This bugged me too. His muscles still work, so his lungs still do. There's NO reason he couldn't give mouth to mouth. It'd be even better since his exhale would be oxygen!

I thought Jack was being kinda odd in this ep, but it didn't bother me all that much. Jack has been pretty woefully inconsistent this series. I've stopped demanding much sense from that character (and the ones around him are so much more compelling anyway). I'm just gonna assume he was well fucked up by his time on the Valiant or something.

Definitely.

I can't really fault him for that.

I share your bafflement with the characterisation of Jack. One week he's the big loving dad to his team, the next he's standing there and timing Owen trying to kill himself. It's impossible to like him, or even to see any consistency. It's killed my writing his character stone dead - just feel whatever I put down will be completely overturned the next week.

It's quite unnerving.

Well, in other shows with dead guys (Buffy) they have the no breath thing too. I guess it's just a rule in sci-fi/fantasy that vampires and zombie guys can't give CPR even if they can talk.

Bunch of baloney, though. He wouldn't be a great blood donor, but his muscles work fine, and that's all you need for CPR.

Really, I amuse myself. I'm nitpicking about CPR and he's DEAD.
