Torchwood ... wow.

Burn Gorman is fantastic.

I've liked Torchwood a great deal this series -- although to be fair I liked the last series, too.  This one was stellar, and it was mostly Gorman's acting that did it for me.

That scene with oblivious Tosh in his kitchen (eating, Tosh! seriously!) ... the interaction with Parker (whom I loved) ... throwing out all the food and drink in his flat ... the quasi-drowning.  Whoa.  I liked his scenes with Maggie as well, whose story broke my heart, too.  You know the writing and acting are good when I find myself wanting to give Owen -- philandering asshole Owen -- a hug.

Jack was an absolute jerk in this episode and I found myself rooting for Owen to shoot him in the scene where he made him give up the gun and access pass.  (Oh, c'mon.  It wouldn't have stuck, and Jack kinda deserved it.)  After all the soul-searching and emo from Jack about being abandoned by the Doctor, I expected Jack to be at least marginally supportive of Owen's condition.  I don't fault Jack for being overwrought about his own situation -- and he had every right to be pissed at the Doctor -- but good grief, he was absolutely cruel to Owen.  This hit me as even worse than Jack's treatment of Beth back in Sleeper, which I know didn't sit well with a lot of people.  After all, it was Jack who was unable to let Owen go and got him into this mess in the first place.  Pot, this is kettle.

I do have to comment on something that tweaked my willing suspension of disbelief, and it annoyed me because it threw me out of the show for a moment.  If Owen doesn't have a heartbeat or circulation, he won't bruise.  Broken bones and open wounds are bad enough, so why even go there?  Also ... if he can talk, he can give rescue breaths, even if he doesn't need to breathe for respiration.  /end skience nitpicking.
