I was thinking about what made this story so very different from so many others, and one of the things I perceived was that you caught the Doctor in the act of feeling. Oh, he goes through great revolutions of feelings in other stories, but usually we're just told about it. Here, we were shown. What he was feeling was demonstrated by his actions, by what he notices and what others notice about him, by the words he says and by the echo in the silence between breaths of all the things he doesn't say. I feel as if we were shown the Doctor in the act of -- please pardon the expression -- being human.
