Nope. The First Lunatic in that realm, then, is me. Doomsday is inevitable. We have to cope with it, and so do they. Now, how everything unfolds past that point is a subject of considerable interest, and yes, absolutely, we have to deal with the Doctor and whether he loses all the ground he has gained her emotionally. He's grown up a lot in these chapters and it would be terrible to see him toss that all out. He's not deluding himself enough to think that Rose's forever is the same as his forever. What he's had to work out is whether it is sufficient to have that interlude, as you put it, and be happy for a time, or to keep up walls and protect himself against the same inevitable hurt.
Now, that being said, we are genuinely two chapters away from their leaving the monastery, and then, the epilogue. (Apres moi, le deluge.) Don't smack me! I am writing a sequel. Really. And the first bit of it had me in tears. Seriously. I don't cry when writing but I did here.
