I still like the idea of the Doctor losing Rose, getting her back, and finally having to make the decision he's been avoiding all of his lives: is it worth it? Are the memories and moments of joy worth the pain and loss? My first instinct is to say yes, but I don't have to live with the guarantee that I will outlive every single person I come to love or care about. That's a heavy burden, and I don't blame him for wanting to protect himself. Still wanna slap him upside the head for Rienette, though.
