I wonder if, in fact, his business successes were in any way related to this? Again, Rose's rescue would be the most important thing he could do, if he could reach through time, with saving Alt!Jackie (which he evidently could not do) and bringing the cavalry in time to rescue the Doctor from the Cybermen (which he did) coming in closely after that, but I wonder if he had the chance to whisper to his much earlier self some suggestions for the future, to ensure that he be in a position to save Rose, save his world, and so on, down the road.
