Top five favorite fics meme

Okay ... not commenting on The Big News right now, because I need some processing time.  I'm not terribly surprised, though.

In the meantime, because I like a good writing meme, I snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] the_tenzo.  I don't tag people.  If you want to do it, do it.

Sometimes Always it's okay to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

I carefully considered my master list for this, if you want to take a peek.  (Hey.  Pimping here.)

Proof somehow captured the exact mood and setting I wanted; Christmas at the monastery where Jacob lives.  I love writing the Doctor's interaction with faith, and the debate about Christmas between him and Jacob was delightful to write.  I think it holds up well.

It seems like everyone wrote a post-JE story of some kind, and yep, I did too.  All the same, I love The Quiet Chamber because it helped me mentally process the aftermath of that episode.  I also enjoy research and I think the little details in this story -- the speed of the jet, the flight times from Bergen to London, the football team in Bergen -- helped make it real.

The Little Ones needed a better title, but it illustrated an experience I was lucky enough to have.  "Write what you know" is hard in science fiction, but this is genuinely taken from my own life.

I love Navel Gazing because I wrote a story based on an Ig Nobel prize.  What's not to love?

And finally ... The Hidden Well, partly because I lived with it so long, and partly because I love the OCs in it and partly bccause it challenged me in a way that none of the other things I've written have done.  I naturally tend to write more character-driven pieces, and while I think I did a good job of characterization in the story, it was the plot that pushed me.  I also got to write the Doctor leaping a fence to get to Rose.  Yay.

If it were finished (grumble), I'd put my current WIP on this list.  It's gotten under my skin, too.
